About This Course

Students develop basic listening and conversational skills in the Indigenous language, understand language structures and vocabulary, appreciate Native oral traditions, read simple texts, write on familiar topics using accurate language conventions and use information technology to communicate.

Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate near-fluent proficiency by using the Native language spontaneously and effectively across a wide range of social and academic settings, showing leadership in preserving and revitalizing the language.

Engage in sophisticated oral communication, including debates and discussions on complex topics; deliver presentations and speeches; collaborate with elders to record oral histories and share community stories.

Analyse and interpret advanced literature, historical documents and contemporary texts; compare writing systems and dialects; research linguistic and cultural topics and present findings to others.

Produce advanced written works such as analytical essays, research papers, narratives and creative pieces that reflect deep cultural understanding; use stylistic techniques; and maintain accuracy in grammar and vocabulary.

Use digital platforms and media to create multimedia resources for language learning and promotion; coordinate language events and initiatives involving students and community members; advocate for the language through school-wide and community activities.

Refine and extend knowledge of grammar, language conventions and vocabulary; apply this knowledge to mentor peers and support language revitalisation efforts in the community.
