About This Course

Students analyze how physical, mental and social factors contribute to the health triangle; assess the influence of heredity, lifestyle and environment; make informed decisions about personal health and sexuality; and connect personal health choices to community well-being.

Learning Outcomes

Explain how personal, social, and environmental factors influence personal health; research community and online wellness resources; and set S.M.A.R.T. goals to improve personal health.

Analyze factors that affect personal wellness, including physical activity, mental health, relationships, sleep, genetics, environment, and government policies; develop a personal wellness plan; and identify how personal health choices influence future career and life options.

Explore alternative therapies and approaches to personal wellness; evaluate the quality of health information from various sources; and practise making informed decisions about products, services, and therapies.

Evaluate the components and characteristics of healthy communities; assess how health policies, laws, and social determinants impact community health; and identify strategies to support others in making healthy choices and fostering wellness in the community
